Picking

Cochise - Audioslave

This is a fun song for riffs. There are two main riffs, the verse and the chorus and they are repeated throughout the song. The solo is simple, just fast picking and a few slow bands with guitar effects.

I Miss You - Incubus

The time signature in this song is interesting as it is feels a bit like 6/8 in the chorus because of the half time feel, but in the verse it feels like 6/4. In the end, it doesn’t matter, it sounds good. Pretty simple song to play. The guitar is tuned in Drop D. It is the same riff in the intro and Verse, but in the latter it is palm muted. The Chorus is simply strummed.

People Are Strange - The Doors

Great challenging song both for the rhythm and the solo part. The latter is fast and technical. Watch out for the repeats. Note that the tempo changes throughout the song, as it wasn’t recorded with a metronome like nowadays, but the good ol’ way of feeling the music.

Aerials - System of a Down

This song is great for practicing alternate picking. The intro pattern is quite challenging. The tuning for this song is Dropped C, which means that all your strings are one tone lower than Standard tuning, but your 6th string is a C. During the Verse, only the chords on the 6th string are palm muted.

Here in Your Bedroom - Goldfinger Bass

This song is quite fast and challenging. It’s played with a pick which makes it easier than with fingers, because of the speed of the song, but there are a lot of changes and it is not build like a traditional verse-chorus song.
